Juniors raise $82,000 at 7th Annual StreetSquash Jr. Cup

On Saturday, March 11th and Sunday, March 12th, StreetSquash hosted our 7th Annual StreetSquash Jr. Cup. Over the course of the weekend we hosted a total of 15 teams comprised of junior players from across New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.

Saturday’s tournament featured our middle school players, with teams represented from the Yale Club, Union Club, Pingry School, SquashSolutions.Com, and the Sultans of Swing. Each of the teams recruited a StreetSquash student to join their rosters, allowing for our students to meet and compete with juniors from across the tri-state area. Overall, we had a total of 50 junior players, ranging from ages 9 – 13, competing in the round robin tournament. The energy and enthusiasm was palpable in the S.L. Green StreetSquash Center, as parents, supporters and teammates cheered on their friends and family throughout the day. Ultimately, the Union Club Juniors took home the finalist prize, with the Big Blue Army clinching the championship.

On Sunday, we hosted the the high school division, with teams represented from the Harvard Club, Staples High School, Fieldston School, Dalton School, Nightingale-Bamford School, Pingry School, the Princeton Juniors and Team Squash-Fit. While the level of play was noticeably more advanced, the camaraderie among the juniors was just as impressive. The competition was fierce throughout the two pools, resulting in the Harvard Club and Princeton Juniors meeting in the finals. In an exciting 4-1 win, the Princeton Juniors moved from last year’s finalists, to this year’s champions! Congratulations to all of the teams who participated, making this event so vibrant.

We would like to thank all of our coaches and captains: Sat Seshadri, Bradley Ball, Charlie Johnson, Chris Walker, Faith Lefkort, Lydia Muller, Jennifer Gabler, Dave Edwards, Olivia Robinson, Julia Fink, Jahnavi Bhavsar, Will Evans, Hansen Ogden, Coco Ogden, Will Eun, Bennett Eun, Noah Gewirtz, George McNulty, Jacob Bulbulia, Jackson Rho, and Emma Jarnagin, for their outstanding leadership and support over the last several weeks.

In total, the junior players raised a record-breaking $82,100 to support our StreetSquash students in Harlem and Newark. We are tremendously grateful for the support we have received from our StreetSquash community, and look forward to hosting everyone again next year!
