It’s that time of year again! The Tournament of Champions returned to the Big Apple, and past champions, Nicol David and Nick Matthew, made a special visit to see our StreetSquashers at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.
On Thursday, January 12th, Nicol and Nick were greeted with cheers from a court full of enthusiastic StreetSquashers. Once the crowd settled down, StreetSquash captains, Kianna ’18 and Naheem ’20, presented detailed bios of Nick and Nicol, giving context to their amazing careers on court.
Following introductions, Nicol brought all of our young women onto Court 8 for an intimate Q&A session, where our students sought to know everything about Nicol’s life as a touring pro. Staying put on Court 4, Nick and the boys also engaged in a Q&A, followed by Nick instructing some interested students on how to hit the perfect drop shot.
Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. We would like to thank StreetSquash board member, Ed Shugrue, for his incredible efforts in helping coordinate the exciting visit!
