Day of Silence

This year StreetSquash’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) organized our second annual Day of Silence. With the goal of bringing attention to silencing affect anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools cause to LGBT youth and allies, StreetSquashers set up a table in the lobby prepared to meet students before they headed to their sessions to talk about the purpose of the day. Students, staff, volunteers and guests were also asked to take a photo with a sign that they made stating why ending the silence was important to them and signing a pledge to continue their support. Over the two days there were over 80 pledges of support that will be on display for the week. Additionally, the GSA students and staff will be preparing follow up workshops and gathering feedback so that the message of acceptance and empowerment will continue throughout the year!
