StreetSquash heads to Yale!

The 3rd annual Northeast Regional Teams Tournament took place in New Haven on October 10th at the Brady Squash Center at Yale University. 42 enthusiastic StreetSquashers departed on Friday afternoon to make the journey towards New Haven via Metro-North. To the staff’s delight, the students were patient and distracted by the thought of competing the next day, despite many students having to stand while en route to New Haven. The students were eager to learn the rules and procedures of the tournament and how to best manage nutrition and sleep when traveling as a student-athlete. When the group arrived at the hotel it was already dark so students sat comfortably in the hotel dining room eating dinner and bonding over more squash talk. Anxious for the day ahead of them, some students had a little more trouble getting to bed than others.

On Saturday morning everyone rose at 7 (some particularly avid students rising before the break of dawn), ate breakfast, and piled into the van where we plugged in some pump-up music for the ride to the Squash courts. Seven teams competed for StreetSquash in the boys and girls draws. While there were no major titles brought home, many of the students gained valuable match experience and were able to notice their own improvements since the previous year. The positivity that came out of the matches was commendable, especially for young inexperienced squash players. As soon as the matches concluded, we made our way to the the train station back to New York, stopping for dinner. Special thanks to Nasean ’14 and Jordano ’09 for stepping in as chaperones and coach!
