The 14th Annual StreetSquash Cup was a highly successful event where once again the biggest winners were the students in Harlem. More than 850 individual donations over the course of three months brought in more than $1.4 million for StreetSquash, with donations still trickling in!

On the day of the event itself, 10 teams competed for a chance to win the actual StreetSquash Cup. The day was split up into two sessions with The Harvard Club, The Trotters, the YLC, the Women All-Stars, and the Greenwich Squashers competing in the morning session. In the afternoon, it was the Racquet & Tennis Club, AS Birch Grove, Bronxville Field Club, the Wildcards, and the Union Club.

The professional Squash players participating in the event were former world number one Nick Matthew, former number nine player Adrian Grant, former top 25 player Bradley Ball, along with Egyptian player Mohamed Nabil, and Nigerian player Tunde Ajagbe.

In both the morning and afternoon sessions, the scores were close enough where the matches between the professionals were the deciding factor. During the morning session, just four points separated the top three teams.

But it was the Harvard Club, with 20 points that came out on top. The Harvard Club had a clutch performance during the fifth slate of matches when they took on the Greenwich Squashers. The Harvard Club swept all 7 of their matches helping them climb towards the top of the leaderboard. The Trotters finished with 18 points, and the YLC came in third with 16 points.

In the afternoon, the winner of the StreetSquash Cup literally came down to a sudden death point played between Adrian Grant for the Racquet & Tennis Club, and Tunde Ajagbe, representing Bronxville Field Club. Though Bronxville, who made their first appearance at the StreetSquash Cup, finished in third place, Racquet & Tennis needed this match to defeat AS Birch Grove. Fortunately for the Racquet & Tennis Club, Adrian Grant won the sudden death point and R&T propelled into first place finishing with 22 points. AS Birch Grove had 21 and Bronxville finished with 18.

The Racquet & Tennis Club secures its third StreetSquash Cup victory, previously winning in 2016 and 2010.

AS Birch Grove, for the second year in a row, takes the Founder’s Cup crown, bringing in a total of $210,555 on the fundraising side.
