Alumni Visits, near and far!

October and November mark the start of college visits for the Alumni Support team! This means checking in with everyone, meeting with academic advisors or Career Service counselor, and having a nice (off-campus) meal on StreetSquash! So far we’ve visited freshman Imani and graduating senior Patricia at Dickinson, Earl at Bowie State University (HBCU), and Emma and Khala at George Washington.

In addition to all the excitement and tough academics that goes along with the start of the school year, some highlights include – Imani having a great roommate, Patricia hosting debate nights at her social justice dorm, Emma making the squash team, Khala performing spoken word open mic night, and great friends giving Earl a surprise birthday celebration.

Things that you should look forward to: Seeing how are the upstate New York students are doing (over 20 students, 12 college visited in 10 days!), StreetSquash hosting NUSEA alumni dinners at Hobart and William Smith and St. Lawrence/Clarkson University/SUNY Potsdam, and our first visit to Nashville, Tennessee to visit our Posse Scholar Kevin (’16) at Vanderbilt University.

In addition to visiting our students away on campus, we’ve also started checking in with our local college students. We started the year off visiting Dashawn at Mercy College, who is thriving in his classes and taking full advantage of his campus resources, even utilizing the career office for internships. We also checked in with Titus at St. John’s University in Queens, where he updated us on how much he loves his campus as he prepared to tackle his first set of midterms. Later in the month, we’ll also visit our students who attend LaGuardia Community College, Guttman Community College, and York College.
