Steve Green to Receive U.S. Squash’s Highest Honor

Steve Green, who has served on the StreetSquash Board of Directors for over 20 years, will receive U.S. Squash’s highest honor, the President’s Cup, at a ceremony at the end of April.

The award, which is given to “people who have made substantial, significant and sustained contributions to American squash.”, will be presented on April 28 at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia, following the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Championships that day. (The Men’s tournament is named after Steve – the S.L. Green Championship – after he endowed the event’s purse.)

In addition to providing essential leadership at the Board level, Steve was instrumental in helping StreetSquash  build its permanent home in central Harlem in 2008, with a lead gift of $1.5 million in the $9 million fundraising campaign. The grand opening ceremony featured Steve alongside Founder and Executive Director George Polsky and then-New York State Senator Hillary Clinton.

Steve was also the honoree at StreetSquash’s two biggest galas celebrating the organization’s 5th and 20th anniversaries.

“StreetSquash would literally not be where it is today without Steve’s leadership, kindness and generosity,” StreetSquash Founder and Executive Director George Polsky said. “He has been at my side, and StreetSquash’s side, for over 20 years, and has helped to provide incredible access and opportunities for thousands of StreetSquash students over the years.”
