On Saturday, StreetSquash hosted the Second Annual StreetSquash Invitational, where five different NUSEA programs participated in a one-day tournament at the SL Green StreetSquash Center. 65 participants in the U13 and U15 age groups were represented from Steel City Squash, CitySquash, SquashHaven, Capitol Squash and StreetSquash Harlem. It was a jam-packed day of squash with matches starting at 10:30am and concluding at 6:00pm.
A great deal of StreetSquashers played in their first squash tournament of the year. Despite some nervous jitters, all of the students were eager to play their matches, and managed their wins and losses with a calm and composed demeanor.
We had several students volunteer as tournament supporters, including Nakayla, Bryttany, Justin, Ja-Yril, and Nasir, who were a terrific help during different times throughout the event. Special thanks to Naheem, who worked the whole day and was quick to help in any way he could.
Also, special thanks to Jack and Katiria for coaching the kids and supporting me at the tournament desk, and Hanna for managing the front desk! There were a few hiccups with matches but we were able to solve them.
It was a great day of squash, and we’re looking forward to next year!
