15th Annual StreetSquash Cup Raises Nearly $3.2 Million

The 15th Annual StreetSquash Cup raised nearly $3.2 million, setting a new record for the organization. This remarkable achievement, made possible by the efforts of ten teams and the generosity of over 940 individual donors, will have a profound impact on the futures of young program participants.

The highlight of this year’s event is the creation of the “Polsky Family Scholarship Fund,” with nearly half of the funds raised, over $1.5 million, being allocated to this newly endowed scholarship. This scholarship fund will serve as an enduring tribute to StreetSquash founder George Polsky by providing our students with assistance in reducing the costs associated with their education, job training programs, and other professional development opportunities.

The Polsky Team, captained by George Polsky, made its debut appearance in the StreetSquash Cup, and led the fundraising efforts by raising over $1.5 million. The Union Club secured the second-place spot with contributions totaling more than $295,000, while The Wildcards rounded out the top three with an impressive $257,000 in donations.

The StreetSquash Cup also showcased intense competition on the squash court. The event was divided into two sessions. The morning session featured The Polskys, Bronxville Field Club, The Trotters, The Greenwich Squashers, and The YLC.

The Greenwich Squashers dominated the morning session, winning all their matches with the help of their pro, TJ Dembinski, and securing 7 points in total. The Bronxville Field Club finished closely behind with 6 points.

The afternoon session featured The Wildcards, The Union Club, The Harvard Club, The Racquet & Tennis Club, and AS Birch Grove. This session turned into a fierce battle, with AS Birch Grove, Racquet & Tennis, and Union Club all having three points heading into the pro matches. The outcome was decided by the pros at the event.

AS Birch Grove, led by pro Ryan Cuskelly, managed to outlast the other contenders and emerged as the winners of the afternoon session of the StreetSquash Cup. The Union Club and The Wildcards both finished with 5 points.

The event showcased top-tier professional squash players, including Clinton Leeuw (YLC), Alister Walker (The Polskys), Tunde Ajagbe (Bronxville Field Club), Rick Penders (Trotters), TJ Dembinski (Greenwich Squashers), Nathan Lake (Wildcards), Cameron Pilley (Union Club), Peter Creed (Harvard Club), Jaymie Haycocks (Racquet & Tennis), and Ryan Cuskelly (AS Birch Grove).

The participation of StreetSquash alumni, including Terrance Rose, Mauricio Anguiano, Mawa Ballo, Yunior Santos, Danny Cabrera, Conner Robinson, Mohamed Diakite, Amar Moorer, David Johnson, and current StreetSquash participant Thomas Overton, added to the spirit of community and achievement.

The 15th Annual StreetSquash Cup demonstrated the power of sports and community to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people. With the establishment of the Polsky Family Scholarship Fund, this year’s event promises a brighter future for StreetSquash participants pursuing higher education.
