This weekend, Gabby and I took 14 StreetSquash ladies to Howe Cup, a national women’s squash tournament in Boston. The weekend was a huge success with division finalists from the NYCFC (B Divison) led by Rakey Drammeh (All Star alumni), and Divison D finalists featuring Trina ’19, Harriet ’17, and Fatou ’18. Other squash highlights included Nia ’18 winning all of her matches and playing for a Philadelphia team who was singing her praises, Leslie ‘`17 and Cindy ’16 showing amazing sports(wo)manship in a tough C draw, Erica ’16, Suejona ’19, Kianna ’18 and Jaylene ’17 showing tons of effort on their youth dominated D team, and Ajayla ’18 and Nia ’17 rocking the glass court in a tough C draw in which they showed tons of composure and had the crowds amazed at their calm on court.
Emma ’16 and Joetta ’16 also repped StreetSquash well playing on all NUSEA teams with tons of great match play at the C and B draw respectively. They toughed out sleeping on the floor of a Harvard dorm and taking the Boston T which started with complaints but ended in some great bonding with their NUSEA teammates. Special shoutout to Chloe from StreetSquash Newark who played a very competitive 1 on our second B team (and driving our second van!) with coach Gabby, alumnus Tosin, Nakayla ’17, and Sasha. Tons of squash, lots of great support from eachother and NYSquash women, and another Howe Cup complete!
Non squash Highlights also include the Saturday night party at the New England aquarium, JP Licks famous ice cream, awesome uniforms, and some cool Howe cup swag. Looking forward to Howe Cup 2016 at… Chelsea Piers, Connecticut!
