StreetSquash Hires New Manager of CASAS

StreetSquash is thrilled to welcome Kirsten Bowens to the staff, who will serve as the Manager of CASAS (College Access, Success & Alumni Support). In her role, Kirsten will work with graduates of StreetSquash to ensure their post-high school success, whether in college or alternative initiatives. Kirsten will visit alumni on college campuses and will work to secure educational, financial, and career assistance for former StreetSquashers.

Originally from Mahwah, New Jersey, Kirsten went on to get a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management at an HBCU in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she gained entry via a full scholarship through Track & Field. She then went on to earn a Master of Education in Higher Education at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ. She is a first-generation student in her family.

Kirsten is no stranger to working with kids in athletics, previously serving as a Youth Track & Field coach in New Jersey for 11 years.

Prior to landing at StreetSquash, Kirsten held jobs in admissions at St. Augustine’s University, St. Peter’s University, and Kean University. She’s worked as both an Admissions Counselor and an Assistant Admissions Director.

She’s joining StreetSquash because she feels her career goals align with the organization’s mission.

“Being a former student-athlete and woman of color, I can relate best to the success of students who persist in their college and career pathways,” Kirsten said. “My goal is to have fun while making a difference.”

Kirsten is a member of her high school’s Hall of Fame and previously auditioned for America’s Next Top Model. She made it to the second round before withdrawing to continue her track & field endeavors.

In her free time, Kirsten likes trying new restaurants, cooking, reading poetry, hiking, biking, and spending quality time with her family’s poodle, Melo.
