The 17th Annual StreetSquash Cup was a major success with the event bringing in over $1.5 million to fund day-to-day operations at StreetSquash.

The theme of this year’s event was, “In it for the Cause, Community & Courts.” The slogan acknowledged a full renovation of all 8 courts at StreetSquash that took place at the end of the summer.

For the first time, the event featured 12 teams instead of the usual 10, with one new team joining the fold (Blackstone), and another team returning for the first time since 2019 (Apollo).

In its StreetSquash Cup debut, the Blackstone team, captained by Carlos de Mello & Amara Haider made a big splash in the fundraising department bringing in nearly $300,000. The total allowed Blackstone to walk away from the event winning the Founder’s Cup, the award given to the team with the highest fundraising total.

Each team has a goal of bringing in $100,000. Having a first-time team nearly triple the goal is an unprecedented achievement.

The Union Club had the second highest total bringing in just shy of $200,000. The Trotters rounded out the top three with a total of $190,010.

In total, 7 of the 12 teams surpassed the $100,000 fundraising threshold.

In the on-court portion of the event, the day was split into two sessions like usual. The morning session featured Morgan Stanley, The Racquet & Tennis Club, The Trotters, The Union Club, The University Club, and The Wildcards. Teams featured a total of 8 players – six amateurs recruited by team captains, along with a StreetSquash alum and a pro-level squash player. Teams were able to draft their pros and alums with the draft order determined by fundraising totals.

The Wildcards won the morning session with a total of 32 points. Racquet & Tennis finished in second place with 27 points. The Union Club and Morgan Stanley tied for third place with 18 points each.

The afternoon session featured Apollo, Blackstone, The Greenwich Squashers, The Harvard Club, The Women All-Stars, and The YLC. The Harvard Club finished on top with 30 points. The YLC was in second place with 22 points and Apollo finished third with 21 points.

Between the two playing sessions, teams had an opportunity to hear from Mauricio Anguiano who graduated high school in 2019. He spoke about the impact StreetSquash has had on himself and his siblings.
